During the academic year, UCI Libraries employ up to 125 student assistants in various departments. Many positions offer flexible hours to accommodate course schedules. Student positions are filled on a rolling basis and open to current UCI students.

Types of Positions
Check materials in/out.
Assist patrons with the placement and pickup of holds, renewals, recalls, and searches.
Provide information and referral services for library users.
Perform general clerical tasks including photocopying, filing, data entry, preparing mailings, and faxing.
Prepare collections-related documents using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Conduct bibliographic searching for books and other research materials using UC Library Search.
Provide assistance with basic administrative tasks (e.g., data input, scanning, filing, photocopying), office mailings, special events, writing/editing, social media, and photography.
Availability for night and evening events preferred.
Assist in the setup, maintenance, and cleanup of library stress relief initiatives.
Assist with library outreach events, special projects, and simple clerical tasks.
Create and help maintain inventory of library outreach giveaways (such as buttons).
Sort and deliver mail to the library’s various departments and offices.
Load and drive a library vehicle, on occasion, for deliveries and pickups.
Assist in daily maintenance duties, such as relocating collection materials, moving furniture, cleaning, and building repairs.
Must be available to occasionally work early mornings, summer, and quarter breaks.
Valid California driver's license with a clean DMV record required.
Assist with editing and updating online library of tutorials and infographics.
Record videos, provide captioning and basic user testing, edit video or audio files, and upload files to video/media platforms.
Familiarity with multimedia software, including at least one video editing or design program, preferred.
Prepare and pack books for mailing through courier and mail services.
Unpack and sort returned materials.
Scan book chapters and articles.
Patrol buildings and immediate environs to ensure patrons are following the Libraries' policies.
Clear buildings at closing and ensure they are locked appropriately.
Assist with security gate enforcement and shelving duties.
Extended hours during week 10 and finals and regular late evening hours required.
Help patrons navigate the library website, resources, and services in person and online.
Label, shelve, and assist with general upkeep of the reference and map collections.
Work independently on data entry projects, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Photocopy rare books and archival material, following procedures for safe handling.
Create digital images of archival photographic prints, slides, negatives, and documents.
Edit and transfer digital files onto blank disc media and cloud-based servers.
Reading knowledge of Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Hmong, and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
Rehouse and label containers for manuscripts and university archives according to archival techniques, including foldering, sleeving, and boxing.
Conduct image capture process of floppy disk archival materials on a specialized imaging workstation, implementing detailed and specific steps for preservation of born-digital archival materials.
Create container lists and inventories of archival and monographic materials using Microsoft Excel or other software.
Public or customer service experience and reading knowledge of Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Hmong, and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
Page and shelve books and archival collections.
Transcribe and perform quality control for transcriptions of audio and video files.
Update internal department database with collection shelving locations and box numbers.
Staff the service desk and assist users in the Orange County & Southeast Asian Archive (OC&SEAA) Center.
Public or customer service experience and reading knowledge of Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Hmong, and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
Sort, organize, and shelve materials.
Assist in major/minor shifting of the collection.
Carry out general maintenance of study areas and the stacks.
