The UCI Libraries announce the opening of an exciting new exhibit called Healing U: Health Education at UCI, on Tuesday, April 29th at 5:30 PM in Langson Library. Ralph Clayman, M.D., UCI Dean of the School of Medicine, is our opening night event speaker.
Healing U showcases the evolution of UCI’s innovative health education programs that are revolutionizing how tomorrow’s doctors, nurses and public health professionals are being trained, and shaping the future of healthcare in our community.
The exhibit will illustrate the fascinating history and growth of UCI’s School of Medicine, the emergence of the popular Nursing Science program, and the expansion of the Program in Public Health. The latest medical education tools and techniques will be portrayed, such as the UCI iMedEd initiative, the nation’s first completely digital, interactive learning curriculum on the iPad. The exhibit will also explore the implementation of evidence-based practice that brings current research into the care of patients, and how emerging issues in health affect society. Finally, it will highlight the important role of cutting-edge library resources in supporting this new learning environment, and the changing nature of health sciences librarianship.
On display will be current resources, as well as antique medical instruments and memorabilia, rare books, and archival materials illustrating the unique journey from the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons to the UCI School of Medicine and UCI Medical Center.
Opening night speaker Ralph Clayman, M.D., UCI’s Dean of the School of Medicine, is a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic minimally invasive urologic surgery. During his tenure, the UC Irvine Health Douglas Hospital was completed and brought online along with new state-of-the-art laboratory and educational facilities. Also, the iMedEd initiative was launched, applications to the medical school increased by 25%, and the roster of UCI physicians acknowledged by the Best Doctors in America list surpassed the 100 mark. In addition, over the past 5 years, prestigious nationally-recognized research programs have come to our campus, including a Clinical Translational Science Award and a Conte Center for studies in the neurosciences.
The program will be followed by a light reception and exhibit viewing. The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited; reservations are first come, first served. Please go to rsvp to make an online reservation. For further information please call 949.824.4651 or email partners@uci.edu.
